The Year 3 Team

If you have any questions or need any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. You can leave a message at the school office, send us a message on Class Dojo, or speak to us at home time.

Spring Term- Year 3

This half term, we have lots of exciting learning taking place in class.

English

In English, we are enjoying our class novel, This Morning I Met a Whale by Michael Morpurgo, which is inspiring thoughtful discussions about our spiritual moments, especially our “wow” moments. We are also exploring the non-fiction text Big Blue Whale by Nicola Davies. This is helping us to develop our writing skills and learn fascinating facts about ocean life, supporting us in producing different genres of writing such as poetry, narratives, and recounts.

Maths

In Maths, we are focusing on fractions, building our understanding through practical activities and problem-solving.

Science

In Science, we are exploring the topic of Light by investigating different light sources around the school and organising them into artificial and natural light sources. The children will also be learning about the scientific enquiry type ‘comparative and fair testing’ by using their scientific skills to answer the question: How does the distance between the light source and the object affect the size of a shadow?

Reading and Homework

Year 3 children are expected to read to their parents, carers or families three times each week, and we ask that you sign your initials to confirm that the reading has taken place. Children who have three signatures in their reading record each week will qualify for a Friday treat, which will be extended playtime.

Books will be changed every Monday and Friday. If your child finishes their school reading book, they are welcome to read a book from home until they receive a new one.

Children are also expected to complete one page in their times tables book each week.

PE

Our PE days are Monday and Thursday, so children should come to school in their PE kits on these days. On Thursdays, we are also taking part in Judo, where we are developing balance, coordination and confidence.
